December 4: Gemini Full Moon

The Gemini Full Moon at 6:14PM ET on December 4, in a square with Saturn in Pisces invites us to investigate the emotional waves we've been surfing by focusing on headspace. The practice of balancing on a board in moving water requires the ability to connect with what is right in front of you and tune out the fear, doubt, and insecurity of the mind. The ability to stay present with the goal of connection in the midst of turbulence is the lesson this lunation is offering.

The Full Moon at 13°04 Gemini is ruled by a slow moving Mercury still in its post-retrograde shadow that is activating the grand water trine between Saturn and Neptune in Pisces and Jupiter in Cancer that has been causing a great tidal shift for the last two months. Gemini needs to process and express and Wednesday is Mercury's planetary day of the week. This is the perfect time to get out your journal and do some visioning work for what you want to manifest related to intimacy, creativity, and self-expression. Gemini is the investigator and digging into what you want on the micro level will help the cosmos shift the macro in your favor.

The Mercury retrograde cycle that began on November 9 at 06°51 Sagittarius, connected the areas of Sagittarius and Scorpio in our charts. We have been dancing with the interplay between fire and water, passion and feelings, emotional depths and spiritual heights for the last month and it won't conclude until Mercury passes its retrograde shadow on December 6th. The Gemini Full Moon is inviting us to look closely at what has risen to the surface.

Mercury stationed direct at 20°42 Scorpio at 12:38PM ET on November 29, and has only moved one degree forward. Mercury is in trine (120 degree aspect) with Saturn and Neptune in Pisces and Jupiter in Cancer, just as Mars was in October and the Sun and Venus was in November. Trines are a flowing triangle energy that wants to bring aspects of our lives or disparate pieces of ourselves together. These outer planets touching the personal ones have released deep material from our subconscious realms: visions for healing, connection, unity, and the realization of creative dreams.

Saturn returned to Pisces on September 1, to finish out the transit that began in March 2023. This area of our chart has been transformed by the realest planet of time and consequence; bringing a dose of gravity to the most slippery of signs. Whatever you've wanted from the Pisces area of life, Saturn has given you the insight and opportunity to achieve it over the last 2 years, but the masterpiece remains unfinished. We have until February 13, to put in the time and effort to realize what wants to come through from the Other side. We have not had an experience like this since 1996, and we will not have the impetus or opportunity again for another 30 years.

Neptune returned to Pisces on September 22, to finish out its centuries in the making movement through Jupiter's sign of mystics, martyrs, healers, and spirit encounters. The world has been transformed since Neptune first dipped a toe into Pisces in April 2011. For those of us dabbling in the esoteric arts–like astrology, tarot, mediumship, and energy healing–Neptune has turned our witchy leanings, spiritual yearnings, and creative curiosities into a cultural revolution. For better or for worse, the psychic phenomenon that Pisces produces has been incorporated into the social media tech boom and become a billion dollar business. Commodification aside, people tuning into their own personal connection with divinity is, overall, a very good thing. This is an excellent Full Moon to pull tarot or explore different psychic ways of sensing.

Historically, there has always been a backlash when the West has opened to new philosophical ideas and ideals, especially those that challenge the status quo. The embrace of the empath over the last decade has already been followed by right wing derision of sensitivity. Those who find it too painful to acknowledge the suffering of the world deny their own humanity when they degrade others, and, in doing so, unconsciously create more suffering.

The Gemini Full Moon holds up a mirror in which we may behold our twin. The shadow is always waiting to be revealed and we lock ourselves into struggle with whatever we reject and push away. Neptune will depart Pisces on January 26, 2026, not to return for another 165 years. This Full Moon is an opportunity to engage with mindfulness practices that help cultivate compassion for the most difficult parts of ourselves and humanity.

Gemini is the archetype of the student that asks endless questions. Mercury activates the mind and this energy can be buzzy and overstimulating for the nervous system. All the thoughts and ideas of Gemini need to be expressed through talking, writing, and sharing in whatever medium inspires. We live in an age of information overflow and our adrenals can get spiked by the deluge coming through the mental realm. Mindfulness practices can help quiet the internal chatter so we can touch the truth of what lies beneath the surface. Give yourself a break and a pause.

Conflict gets popping as the square between Mars in Sagittarius and Saturn in Pisces comes into alignment between December 4-14th. Squares can feel like a shove so be careful not to push people out of the way or let yourself get pushed around. Especially around the peak on December 8th. The tension will be building over the weekend of December 6, but thankfully the Moon-Jupiter conjunction, in a trine with Mercury in Scorpio on December 7, will bring a saving grace.

Squares between Mars and Saturn bring a battle of wills, which can manifest as a clash of egos. The vulnerability of the grand water trine has had people fighting about feelings rather than trying to talk them out. Dropping into the heart space to cultivate compassion and a sense of wonder will create greater peace than trying to force people to your side. Just knowing there is a collective proclivity towards conflict until Mars departs for Capricorn on December 15, can help us steer our ship clear of the obvious whirlpools. The Sun's square with Saturn and Neptune just before the Solstice will illuminate this tension and help us resolve it. Go gently towards the longest night until then.
