February 9: Aquarius New Moon

The Aquarius New Moon at 5:59PM ET on February 9, 2024, is an opportunity to invest in your big crazy dream. The one you don’t even fully understand yet, but have felt it waiting on the wings since last March. Aquarius is the uncompromising, sometimes eccentric individual, ruled by Saturn the planet of reality and truth. The Moon at 20°41 Aquarius in a square with Uranus in Taurus, is a riotous exploration of authenticity.

Aquarius New Moon 2024

Jupiter at 08° Taurus is sextiling Saturn in the fertile, imaginative realm of Pisces where possibility plays. The principle of cause and effect is represented by Saturn who demonstrates what happens when the rubber meets the road by applying pressure at acceleration. There is no hiding from the results that Saturn brings–good, bad, and glorious. But this lunation is less about cold hard facts and more about exploring the dream in your heart. From the vantage point of eternity, our time on Earth is brief. Saturn reminds us that we too shall end so we should live well and honestly while we can.

Authenticity is about what’s actually true, but that’s a subjective experience when talking about Divinity. Pisces transmits unspeakable truths that live in the heart and struggle to be translated into words yet need to be known. Saturn in Pisces is granting us a direct experience of Spirit by bridging us deeper into unknown parts of ourselves. We intuitively know this experience when we encounter the breathtaking glory of Gaia in nature. Or when our heart breaks wide open from the power of love.

The Water Bearer

Aquarius is symbolized by the water bearer who pours wisdom down to the earth from a high vantage point not usually accessible to humans. Aquarius season, from January 21-February 18, opens our crown chakra to the wisdom of the heavens. We celebrate the uniqueness of all beings by asking what is our individual message to share? This is the first Aquarius New Moon sans Saturn since 2020. As the constraints of the past 3 years give way at this loosening of the bonds–what wants to pour forth? This is the initiation of a 20 year cycle as it is the first Aquarius New Moon with Pluto present. The last will be in 2043.

Aquarius is the divine architect that structures life’s flow so intelligent ideas can circulate as widely as possible. It optimizes the arrangement of complex parts and the relationship between the specific elements. Saturn showed us where the structure of our lives needed to be improved from March 2020-2023. We consider what has cleared since then, giving thanks for the difficulty that led to positive new beginnings in this area of your life. Now, Pluto draws you into greater empowerment through alignment of action with ideals (consult your chart to discover exactly where).

The dance between air and water at this lunation asks you to reflect on the true priority you hold in your heart. What would you do from now until March 2026 if you could do anything? The purpose of structure is to create order, and the function of order is to facilitate form. But that process needs to be imbued with spirit in order to truly elevate us.

Blessed Imbolc

This new moon comes just after the pagan holiday of Imbolc on February 2, a fire festival that marks the mid-way point between the Winter Solstice and Vernal Equinox. There’s just 6 weeks to Spring in the Northern Hemisphere. At Imbolc, we consider intentions set at the start of the new year and rededicate to those plans. Take time to meditate on ideals and what you feel inspired to make manifest on earth–what kind of external structure does this plan or project need to develop over the next 6 weeks? We have a unique window when we can really get things done while Mars is in Aquarius from February 13-March 22.

The Star tarot Major Arcana card

The Star card in the tarot major arcana is associated with Aquarius and signifies finding our way through darkness guided by intuition. The Star encourages us to trust our inner way of knowing. It asks: do you believe you’re being guided; do you listen to the messages you receive; and how would you like the universe to communicate with you? Set intentions for how you want the universe to communicate with you at this New Moon and watch in amazement at what opens up over the next 6 months.

The Star blends scientific inquiry with active imagination, guided visualization, and artistic inspiration. The cerebral and fantastical can be complimentary. Saturn in Pisces is heightening our ability to receive and interpret these divine missives over the next several years. Make a commitment to learn to read the signs and follow the directions. This card promises that those who follow their own star shine brightly enough to light the way for others to do the same. The Star does what's unexpected and doesn’t worry about making sense, just like Uranus.

Venus at 21° Capricorn is trining Uranus in Taurus, awakening us to genuine self love. Love for the strangest parts of ourselves that are wild, untamed, and a little scary. This moon invites the outcast within us that longs to be free but fears being banished to come out and play. Aquarius doesn’t fear standing alone and Uranus knows that the things most worth doing call us to risk. We’re encouraged to drape ourselves in finery and step out as the most glorious weirdo we thrill to be in our hearts.
