The Inception of Pagan Baby
Catherine Please, and writer and astrologer, Laura Campagna, knew each other for many years. After becoming a parent, Cathy searched for books that reflected the magic of earth, but continuously felt what was available fell short. Eventually she decided to create something to share with her child and the world and invited Laura to team up.
Laura had always felt a deep connection to the seasons and was naturally drawn to pagan practices and histories. During adolescence, Laura searched for something meaningful to connect live experiences together and found Wicca. It has been a grounding and sustaining force ever since.
Pagan Baby tells the story of the four seasons through the 8 pagan holidays of Yule, Imbolc, Ostara, Beltane, Litha, Lammas, Mabon, and Samhain. Each section explores the mythology of the 12 astrological signs and 7 traditional planets for that season in lyrical language appropriate for kids ages 2-8. They provide a gateway into a magical realm where children and adults can connect with something deeper to provide a sense of awe and wonder at the majesty of the natural world.
Cathy and Laura worked together, although separated by quarantine, throughout 2020-2021, to create 8 separate books that could be combined seasonally into 4 or annual into 1. The images for Pagan Baby are incredibly beautiful and bring joy to everyone who sees them. The stories are an easy invitation to the magic of the mundane world and inspire people to create sacred practices of their own.
For over a year, Cathy and Laura sought to get Pagan Baby published. Although they received encouraging feedback, it was never the right fit–many spiritual based publishers like it but didn’t offer childrens books. They received several hybrid book deals that also weren’t quite right. They offered Pagan Baby as a downloadable e-book, but many folks asked them when it would be available to buy in print. They are working to bring this project into physical form. If you’d like to facilitate the print publishing process, get in touch.
